Customize your AI so it knows you
Tired of re-explaining who you are every chat? Ten minutes of setup and your AI remembers — who you are, how you like answers, what you're working on. Works in ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini. No tech skills needed.
1Write your three lines (do this first, in any notes app)
Every AI's “customize me” box wants the same three things. Fill these in:
1. WHO I AM: I'm a {your situation — e.g. "bakery owner", "job-hunting nurse", "parent of three"}.
2. HOW I LIKE ANSWERS: {e.g. "simple words, short answers, no jargon"}.
3. ALWAYS / NEVER: Always {e.g. "give me one concrete example"}. Never {e.g. "make up facts — say when you're unsure"}.That's it — three honest sentences. Want a fuller version later? Grab our AI Project Instructions template.
2Open your AI's personalization settings
ChatGPT: click your name (bottom-left) → Settings → Personalization → Custom Instructions.
Claude: your initials (bottom-left) → Settings → Profile — find the “What should Claude know about you?” box.
Gemini: easiest of all — just type “Remember that I'm a bakery owner who likes short, simple answers” in any chat. (Or Settings → Saved Info.)
✓ You should now see: a text box asking what the AI should know about you.

Menus move around. Use the settings search bar and type “custom” or “personal” — every one of these apps has one. On mobile, Settings usually hides behind your profile picture, top-right.
3Paste your three lines and save
✓ You should now see: your words sitting in the box, and a Save/Done button confirmed.

If there are TWO boxes (ChatGPT does this): the first is “about you” → lines 1. The second is “how to respond” → lines 2 and 3.
4Test it — the fun part
Open a new chat and ask something you ask often. No introduction, no context — just the ask.
✓ You should now see: an answer that already fits you — your field, your tone, your length.

Answers not changing? Make sure you opened a NEW chat (old chats keep old settings), and check the toggle next to Custom Instructions is ON. Gemini: ask it “what do you remember about me?” to confirm.
You did it. Your AI now knows you — every prompt you grab from the vault just got better automatically, because the AI fills the gaps with your context. One next step: build your starter pack — four questions, prompts picked for your life.
