Use AI to write better
AI is a patient writing partner. It turns a messy draft into something clear, helps you find the right tone, and never gets tired of one more rewrite.
1. What a prompt is
A prompt is just the message you type to an AI like ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini. You write it in everyday words, the way you would text a helpful friend. The clearer your message, the better the answer.
2. The 3-part prompt recipe
- The job: What you want done, in one sentence.
- The details: Who it is for, what you already know, and anything to avoid.
- The shape: How the answer should look: length, tone, or format like bullets or a table.
Here is the recipe in action:
- The job
- Rewrite my email asking my landlord to fix the heater.
- The details
- Polite but firm. It has been broken for a week and I already asked once by text.
- The shape
- Under 120 words, friendly tone, one clear request with a date.
Put together, you would paste this:
Rewrite my email asking my landlord to fix the heater. Polite but firm. It has been broken for a week and I already asked once by text. Under 120 words, friendly tone, one clear request with a date.
Then just reply to make it better, like "shorter" or "friendlier". The AI remembers the conversation.
3. One common mistake
Pasting a draft with only "make this better".
The AI cannot guess what better means to you. Say what to change: shorter, warmer, more confident, or easier to read.

Quick questions
Will people know I used AI to write it?
Not if you treat the AI's version as a first draft. Read it out loud, change anything that does not sound like you, and add one real detail only you would know.
Can AI fix my grammar without changing my voice?
Yes. Ask it to "fix only spelling and grammar and keep my wording" and it will leave your style alone.
