🐣 AI for Complete Beginners
Never used AI? Perfect — this page is for you. Ten minutes from now you'll have had your first real conversation with an AI, and you'll wonder why anyone made it sound complicated. No tech background needed. Nothing to install. Nothing to be embarrassed about — everyone started exactly here.
1. What AI actually is (one paragraph, promise)
The AI everyone talks about — ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini — is basically a very well-read assistant you talk to by typing. It has read a huge amount of the internet and books, so it can write, explain, plan, translate, brainstorm, and summarize almost anything. You ask in plain English; it answers in plain English. That's the whole thing.
2. Pick one (they're all free to start)
Don't overthink this — they're more alike than different. ChatGPT (chatgpt.com) is the household name. Claude (claude.ai) is loved for writing and careful answers. Gemini (gemini.google.com) is built into Google's world. Pick one, make a free account with your email, and you're in.
3. Your first message — make it about YOUR life
Skip "hello, what can you do?" and give it a real job. Steal one of these:
- "Help me write a kind text to reschedule dinner with a friend."
- "Plan a simple week of dinners for a family of four — nothing fancy."
- "Explain what my electric bill's 'delivery charges' mean, simply."
- "I have chicken, rice, and a lemon. What can I cook tonight?"
The magic moment is seeing it handle something from your actual day.
4. The one skill: talk to it like a smart friend, not a search box
Google gets keywords; AI gets context. Instead of "birthday message sister", say: "Write a warm, funny birthday message for my older sister — she loves her garden and terrible puns, keep it under 50 words." The more you tell it (who it's for, the tone you want, how long), the better it gets. And here's the part nobody tells beginners: you can just reply. Say "make it shorter" or "less cheesy" — it remembers the conversation.
5. Three quick safety rules
- Keep secrets out: no passwords, card numbers, or ID numbers in any chat.
- Trust, then verify: AI occasionally states wrong things confidently. For anything that matters, double-check the key fact.
- Big decisions get a human: use AI to prepare for the doctor, lawyer, or accountant — not to replace them.
6. Level up with ready-made prompts (that's us)
A prompt is just the message you send. Great prompts are a craft — and you can skip the learning curve by borrowing ours. Every prompt on NeLocker is free: find one, fill in the blanks, paste it into your AI.
7. Common beginner questions
Do I need to be technical to use AI?
No. If you can send a text message, you can use AI. You type a request in normal, everyday language, and it answers. There is no code, no setup, and no manual — the whole trick is just describing what you want, like you would to a helpful friend.
Which AI should I try first?
Any of the big three works great for a beginner: ChatGPT (chatgpt.com), Claude (claude.ai), or Gemini (gemini.google.com). All three have free versions. Pick one, create a free account, and start typing — you can always try the others later.
What should I say in my first message?
Try something from your real life: 'Help me write a birthday message for my sister who loves gardening' or 'Explain what a 401k is like I'm 12.' Real tasks beat test questions — you'll immediately see how it helps YOUR day.
Is it safe? What shouldn't I share?
Treat AI chats like talking to a knowledgeable stranger: keep passwords, card numbers, and government IDs out. For medical, legal, or money decisions, use AI to get oriented and prepare questions — then confirm with a professional.
Can I trust everything AI says?
Mostly, but not blindly — AI can occasionally state wrong things confidently (called a 'hallucination'). For anything important, ask it for sources or double-check the key fact. It's a brilliant assistant, not an oracle.
What is a prompt?
A prompt is just the message you type to the AI. Better prompts get better answers — and that's exactly what NeLocker is for: a free library of ready-made prompts you can copy, fill in, and paste.
You're ready. Genuinely.
